Vitality Living Arlington’s Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Memory care is specialized senior living for those who require Alzheimer’s care or dementia care. To ensure the safety and well-being of residents, around-the-clock supervision is provided, as are mental enrichment activities to support cognitive function. Assisted living is also a form of specialized care, but more autonomy is given to residents while still providing support with daily tasks whenever needed.

It’s natural to wonder whether your loved one’s current living situation is still suitable for their needs. Here are some signs to consider moving your family member into our assisted living or memory care community:

  • Difficulty completing everyday tasks
  • Changes in personality or behavior
  • Memory lapses that disrupt daily living
  • Safety concerns
  • A decline in physical health
  • Caregiver strain

In accordance with Virginia regulations, for a resident to live in memory care, they need to have an evaluation from their primary care physician. That includes a cognitive impairment assessment as well as approval from a Power of Attorney (POA) or family member that qualifies them for memory care.

For assisted living, we have 1 caregiver for 11 residents, as well as a medical tech. In memory care, there are 4 caregivers and 2 medical techs per shift.

We work with the Senior Living Financial Specialist programs, which help families understand their options and maximize financial resources, including VA Aid & Attendance benefits, bridge loans, real estate, move management, long-term care insurance, and life insurance. We offer these consultations at no charge to you.

We are a short cab ride to the Virginia Health Care Center (VHC) and all the supporting clinics. We offer a cab ride to all within a 7-mile threshold.

Absolutely! We like to offer the residents their independence but make sure that they are not alone. All we ask is that they sign in and out at the front desk so we know who is in the community in the event of an emergency.

One thing that is admirable about Vitality Living Arlington is the longevity of our care team, as we have 20 employees who have been working on the property for over 15 years. We are also just a few blocks from some of the best DC restaurants and attractions that residents and their families can enjoy at their convenience.
